He has an international profile as an advocate for liveable cities and the global environment and has represented the European Commission, Eurocities, ICLEI, Rockefeller100 Resilient Cities, including recently at Paris COP21 and G7 Japan summit.
He was appointed a Past President RIBA (2003/5) and first elected Mayor of Bristol UK (2012-16)
From his Bristol based practice Ferguson Mann Architects http://www.fm-architects.co.uk he founded the UK wide group of architects, Acanthus, in 1986. He was also an instigator of The Academy of Urbanism with John Thompson who he invited into the RIBA to promote urbanism during his presidency.
In the 90’s he developed the ‘Tobacco Factory’ in South Bristol, a model for culture led city regeneration. He is also a restaurateur, brewer and theatre proprietor.
CBE for services to architecture and the community in the 2010 UK New Years honours list and has honorary degrees from the University of Bristol and the University of West of England.
