Workshop: Solving the housing crises: New Thinking – New Solutions – Day Two @ 14:00
James Gross AoU is an urban innovator and Masterplanning Director at Barton Willmore, the UK’s largest integrated, independent planning and design consultancy.
His career path has been an old school evolution from vocational employment as an under-gardener on a country-estate to landscape apprentice; landscape architect; masterplanner and urbanist spanning more than 20 years. His first major project was design and build involvement with the IBA Emscherpark international building exhibition in the Ruhr area of Germany which evolved into one of Europe’s greatest regeneration successes. He has worked internationally in the US and throughout Europe.
Since joining Barton Willmore in 2007 his focus has been on the creation of sustainable settlements, in particular the processes pre-design, considering the components necessary to make timeless places, sustainable for generations. He was also lead author of Barton Willmore’s shortlisted submission to the 2014 Wolfson Economics prize on Garden Cities, focusing on mechanisms for identifying ‘smart’ locations for growth using exposure to regeneration strategies in the US to develop sophisticated strategic planning ‘sifting’ tools which are now being applied at a range of scales around the UK.
